How to Add Video to Your Site

So you want to add some video to your site. No problem! It’s easier today than ever.

First, look at your digital camera. Does it have the ability to shoot video? If so, use it. Shoot a few sample videos. When you upload those to your PC, you’ll note that you also recorded the audio. Cool! And you didn’t have to go out an spend a lot of money.

Second, you’ll probably want to edit the raw video into something more useful. I recommend Adobe Premiere Elements. It’s cheap and easy to use. If you go through the tutorials, you’ll get the hang of it pretty quickly. You can add titles, other graphics and a variety of interesting effects.

Finally, you’ll need to save it as something useful. If you export to Windows Media and QuickTime, you’ll have enough to work with almost any web visitor. I like to do the next step–convert from Windows Media to Flash–but that requires the Macromedia Flash 8 movie converter.

Here are three that we took. Note that the introduction is the most boring and where are you is the funniest. These were all taken with a Canon SD500 digital camera using the on board condenser mic.

Note that once you have Premiere, you can do quite a few fun things. Add additional sound to a webinar recording, export to DVD with titles and menus, reverse video, make your own music videos and more.
Have fun!

Evening update!

There was a nifty story on the radio about the film editor for “Jarhead” edited the film using software anyone can buy for $900. I’m betting that’s the grown up version of Pemiere Elements known simply as Premiere or one of the Premier plus After Effects packages.
